Southern Food and Beverage Museum

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum is a living history museum dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and the related culture of the American South. Programs and educational events pay tribute to all the cultures that have come together through the centuries to create a unique culinary heritage. It brings all races and ethnicities to the table to tell the tale, from the farmer and the homemaker to the line cook and the celebrity chef. A collaboration of many, the museum allows food lovers of all stripes – Southerners and non-Southerners, locals and tourists, academics and food industry insiders -- to pull up their chairs and dig into the food and drink of the South.

New Orleans Public Library

The New Orleans Public Library celebrates and preserves the collective memory and living history of New Orleans, Louisiana and the world. It fosters the future aspirations and democratic dreams of all. The library is New Orleans' gateway for information through education, communication, culture and recreational enrichment. The New Orleans Public Library inspires the individual and enriches the community through access to information, resources, technology and programming that is delivered by knowledgeable and creative staff. The New Orleans Public Library leads the recovery and the economic redevelopment of our community, fosters the future aspirations of every individual, and protects the intellectual freedom and democratic dreams of all.

Why are we doing this?

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum and the New Orleans Public Library are dedicated to literacy and reading. A study conducted by the NEA in 2002 has shown that citizens who read literature and participate in other arts are more engaged in their communities and have healthier lifestyles than non-readers. We read to feed our souls and to nourish our minds.
